Pediatric Emergency Department
“And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, 'Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.’”
Children are gifts from God himself. We should cherish and care for them the best as we can.
More than 157,000 children under the age of 18 years old reside in Good Samaritan’s primary service area.
Opening at the end of July 2020, Good Samaritan’s new Pediatric Emergency Department was developed specifically for children and their loved ones. This facility provides a completely separate experience for pediatric patients and their families, separating them from the adult and behavioral health populations. The new state-of-the-art area is larger and will allow for better patient flow and experience. It features 12 treatment bays and its own separate waiting room with child-friendly motifs for a more calming and quiet environment.
Good Samaritan’s new Pediatric Emergency Department is the ONLY of its kind in the area and features:
- The ONLY Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Program on the south shore of Long Island providing 24 hour coverage by pediatric and trauma surgeons, intensivists and specialists
- The ONLY Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) on the south shore of Suffolk County
- Board certified pediatric sub-specialists available around-the-clock
- A designated child life program to help children and families cope with the hospital experience
