Open Heart Surgery

Cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists and others from St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center, are on-site at Good Samaritan Hospital to offer their nationally recognized open-heart surgery program to residents of Suffolk County’s south shore. They have expertise in all types of heart surgery, from conventional, open heart bypass and off -pump coronary artery bypass to the newest, minimally invasive valve procedures, including surgical techniques designed to treat certain cardiac arrhythmias, or irregular heart rhythms.

Beacon Award for Excellence


The Beacon Award for Excellence is a significant milestone on the path to exceptional patient care and healthy work environments and recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards. Units that achieve this three-year, three-level award with a gold, silver or bronze designation meet national criteria consistent with the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and the National Quality Healthcare Award.

The unit has evaluation and improvement strategies in place and good performance measures when compared to relevant benchmarks, meeting the following evidence-based Beacon Award for Excellence criteria:

  • Appropriate Staffing and Staff Engagement
  • Effective Communication, Knowledge Management and Learning and Development
  • Evidence-Based Practice and Processes
  • Outcome Measurement
