Good Samaritan Hospital Appoints Director of Pastoral Care
Deacon Richard Becker was recently appointed Director of Pastoral Care for Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center. He was ordained to the Diocese of Rockville Centre in 2011 by Bishop William F. Murphy. Deacon Becker completed his board certification as chaplain in 2013 from the National Association of Catholic Chaplains. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Studies from SUNY Empire State, a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Studies from the Seminary of Immaculate Conception in Huntington and completed the certification program in Health Care Ethics with the National Catholic Bioethics Center in Philadelphia. He will be completing his Master’s Degree in Bioethics in 2019.
Before joining Good Samaritan, Deacon Richard was a chaplain for Good Shepard Hospice where he served on the Gabriel’s Courage perinatal hospice team. His chaplaincy internship was at St. Catherine of Sienna Medical Center and Nursing Home. Previously, he was a principle in a family run mid-size manufacturing company for approximately 30 years that specialized in offset lithography. He is assigned to the parish of St. Philip Neri in Northport where he lives with his wife Carrie. They have two grown children.
