Good Samaritan Appoints Director of Breast Surgery
Sophia Fu, MD, is the Director of Breast Surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, a member of Catholic Health Services of Long Island. Dr. Fu is a graduate of New York Medical College and completed her residency at the State University of New York at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. During this time, Dr. Fu was also active in research, publishing many articles, while obtaining her Masters of Science in BioMedical Engineering at NYU Polytechnic University.
Dr. Fu was a partner in a surgical private practice for several years. While treating her breast cancer patients, she developed a special relationship with them and wanted to dedicate herself to offering the most comprehensive care possible. Due to this strong commitment to breast health, Dr. Fu received her fellowship in Breast Surgery from the Surgical Society of Oncology (SSO) - accredited Breast Surgical Oncology fellowship at the University of Iowa’s Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. There, she trained with multidisciplinary experts in a comprehensive experience to take on the complexity of managing breast cancer care and become a specialist in breast surgery. As a surgical oncologist, Dr. Fu works closely with the other specialists in breast cancer care. Her compassion to her patients and dedication to offering them the best surgery and management of their breast disease puts Dr. Fu on the cutting edge of treatment.
Dr. Fu currently sees patients at locations in Babylon and Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Center. Beginning in September 2019, Dr. Fu will also be located at the new comprehensive Cancer Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip.
