Maternal Fetal Medicine

Good Samaritan’s Department of Maternal/Fetal Medicine is dedicated to the care of women with high-risk pregnancies and their unborn infants. The department has been operating at a brisk pace since March 1997 and currently sees an average of 70-90 patients weekly.

As one of only two such programs in Suffolk County, the Maternal/Fetal Medicine Program was created to support the obstetrics and gynecology services and expand caring for high-risk pregnancy in patients who would otherwise be transferred to other facilities.

The goals of the department are to monitor maternal and fetal conditions, prevent complications during pregnancy, to perform prenatal diagnostic tests, prolong gestation and optimize the fetal condition at the time of delivery.

If necessary, a patient can be admitted to the Medical Center for a certain amount of time during the pregnancy and upon discharge, continued to be monitored at home. Both inpatient and outpatient services are provided.

For further information, call the Physician and Health Referral Line at (631) 376-4444.
