The Laboratory at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center is Joint Commission accredited, licensed and approved by the New York State Department of Health, which also monitors its quality control and proficiency. Laboratory testing is performed by a team of experts, which includes pathologists, New York State licensed clinical laboratory technologists and technicians and ancillary staff working in the various specialized sections of the Laboratory.
More than 3 million tests are processed in Good Samaritan’s full service Laboratory each year. A wide range of pathology and clinical laboratory services are provided. We offer rapid turnaround time for biopsy, Pap smear and Human Papilloma Virus analysis. For the majority of clinical laboratory testing, we can provide your practitioner with next day reporting by phone and/or fax. For those physicians’ offices that do not provide phlebotomy services, the Laboratory has extended outpatient hours to accommodate the needs of referred ambulatory patients. The Blood Bank Good Samaritan’s Blood Bank of Good Samaritan is accredited and inspected by the New York State Department of Health, Joint Commission, and the American Association of Blood Banks.. Blood transfused at Good Samaritan comes from volunteer donors as well as autologous (your own) sources and is delivered regularly by Long Island Blood Services, a Division of the New York Blood Center and the American Red Cross. Blood is given freely by volunteers and available to all. You and your family can become regular volunteer donors by calling the New York Blood Center at 1-800-933-BLOOD or at the regularly scheduled Blood Drives held at Good Samaritan throughout the year.
